This classification is determined by BMW on the basis of various criteria. Primarily, the Longlife class depends on the engine type and the model year. - BMW Longlife 14 FE+: for approved gasoline engines without particulate filter
- BMW Longlife 17 FE+: for approved BMW gasoline engines with and without particulate filter from model year 2014 onwards
The abbreviation FE stands for Fuel Economy, which means lower fuel consumption.
