Engine oil - Constant engine performance is what counts

To meet the increased demands of vehicle manufacturers, it is absolutely essential to use high-quality brand oils and suitable oil filters for cars, which can also sustain the expected performances. For many makes such as BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Opel and VW, we offer you high-quality complete packages consisting of the original engine oil, the original oil filter and the appropriate sealing rings. You always get the same engine oil from us that was used for the first filling of your vehicle and which you can also buy in the respective car dealership. However, we offer you a price that is by far better than the one offered by contract workshops.

With us you will find the original engine oil for your vehicle as an individual package or already put together in the required quantity. In addition, you will find useful tips on changing the oil and oil filter as well as everything you should know to choose the right engine oil in the lower section of the page.

When is it necessary to change the engine oil and oil filter?

One often hears that an oil change for the car is a waste of money and must only be made when the oil lamp appears on the on-board computer / vehicle display. That is not correct. There are specific change intervals for all vehicles, prescribed by the manufacturer, in which an oil change should be made.

Some of the high-performance products used today only have to be renewed after 15,000, 20,000 or even 30,000 kilometres driven. Alternatively, there is also a specified time period for an oil filter change if the vehicle is only driven a few kilometres per year. The change becomes due when one of the two conditions has been met. In this way, the manufacturers ensure that the engine oil and the oil filter are changed on a regular basis so that the remaining spare parts are retained longer and their functionality is not impaired. For the different engines there are different specifications of the maintenance dates. The individual service interval for the engine oil change can be found in the service booklet or the operating manual of the vehicle.

Why should engine oil be changed regularly?

Even the smallest impurities such as metal chips caused by wear abrasion that occurs in the engine are collected by the oil filter. However, this becomes clogged up over time. To avoid clogging of the filter, the filter should be changed regularly. This ensures that the full filter capability is maintained and, consequently, a constant engine performance is ensured. However, the lubricant itself also ages over time and can show signs of wear. This is particularly noticeable in the colder months and in vehicles that are used a lot on short distances (under 10 km).

These cars do not really get up to temperature, which can cause big problems. For example, the fuel that enters the oil pan via the combustion chamber is not completely evaporated. As a result, the remaining liquid accumulates in the oil. It is joined by water and humidity in cold days. This leads to a dilution of the oil, which in turn significantly reduces the lubricating effect.

Massive engine damage is the consequence.

5W30, 5W40, 0W30 or 10W40? Which engine oil is the right one?

There are many different types of engine oil! Each vehicle manufacturer specifies which oil is to be used for its engines, while the amount of oil required varies from car to car, too. In our low-cost complete packages for oil changes, which are tailored directly to your vehicle, we naturally pay attention to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Our complete packages include:

  • The required oil quantity – exclusively in original quality
  • Oil filters – always original products from the vehicle manufacturer
  • Suitable sealing rings

On request, we can also supply you with the required oil drain plug from our extensive range of parts.

Good to know

In connection with oil, a topic often discussed is its viscosity. But what does it actually mean? Viscosity is the resistance of the oil to deformation. Engine oil is classed into different classifications in which the viscosity indicates how "viscous" the oil is at a certain temperature. However, this has nothing to do with the quality of the lubricant.

  • High viscosity: high resistance to deformation (the oil is as viscous as honey, for example)
  • low viscosity: low resistance to deformation (the oil is rather thin, like water, for example)

The individual classifications are divided into SAE classes (SAE=Society of Automotive Engineers). For example, in an engine oil labelled SAE 0W30, the first digit describes the "inviscidity" at low temperatures. The smaller this number, the better this engine oil can flow at low temperatures and correspondingly quicker reach the components in the engine that need to be lubricated. The second digit gives an indication as to the flowability at high temperatures.

The following SAE classes exist:

SAE class for ambient or outdoor temperature*
SAE 0W20 -35 °C to 20 °C
SAE 0W30 -35 °C to 30 °C
SAE 0W40 -35 °C to 40 °C
SAE 5W20 -30 °C to 20 °C
SAE 5W30 -30 °C tp 30 °C
SAE 5W40 -30 °C to 40 °C
SAE 10W30 -20 °C to 30 °C
SAE 10W40 -20 °C to 40 °C
SAE 10W50 -20 °C to 50 °C
SAE 10W60 -20 °C to 60 °C
SAE 15W40

-15 °C to 40 °C

SAE 15W50

-15 °C to 50 °C

SAE 20W40

0 °C to 40 °C

SAE 20W50

0 °C to 50 °C

*The ambient temperatures are given in approximate values only. For this reason, car manufacturers define the exact engine oil specifications in order to use the right oil.

What are the manufacturer standards for engine oil?

Vehicle manufacturers have some requirements for the oils used in the engine. They know exactly which engine oil is best for their built engines and what their engines work most efficiently with. Below we have provided you with a few examples of manufacturer approvals. Be sure to use the appropriate release for your vehicle and follow them when buying engine oil.

  • VW standards: e.g. VW 502 00, VW 504 00, VW 507 00
  • BMW standards: e.g. BMW Longlife-12 FE, BMW Longlife-01
  • Ford standards: e.g. WSS-M2C 925-B
  • Mercedes-Benz standards: MB 229.5, MB 228.3

Our tip:

To keep the value of your vehicle as high as possible, we recommend changing the oil at regular intervals. This prevents premature wear and protects against unplanned vehicle repairs. You can also benefit from our oil change packages, where we have already put together all relevant spare parts for your vehicle for you.
