A good brake system can save your life!

The brake system in a car is required every time you drive. Especially in risky situations, every driver needs the brakes to work properly and correctly. Be it that a child suddenly runs onto the road or that one is distracted by the traffic for a moment – in any case, one has to react quickly and brake more strongly. In order to ensure that the brake force is always at the same high level, it is important for the brake system to be checked on a regular basis. In newer vehicles, sensors such as the brake pad wear warning contact help us to react in time before the brake set is too worn out. You can find out which parts belong to a brake system and how you can tell that the parts are worn at the bottom of this page.

Which parts belong to a brake system?

The most common brake system today is the disc brake. It is only in some rear axles of small cars and compact cars that the drum brake is still used.

The most important components of the disc brake are:

The drum brake consists of the following central components:

In addition, the following elements belong to the brake systems:

Brake discs and brake pads wear out over time and the brake fluid ages, too. This can lead to serious consequences, when it comes to excessive wear of the brake system! Regular maintenance of the brake system can prevent accidents caused by brake failure.

When should parts of the brake system be replaced?

As soon as you notice any grinding, squeaking or juddering sounds or phenomena during the braking process, it is necessary to check the brakes immediately and replace them with high-quality spare parts if necessary. When changing the brake discs, it is advisable to replace the old brake pads at the same time lest the wear pattern of the old brake pads be transferred to the new discs. As brake discs and brake pads wear to differing degrees, it may also be necessary to replace the brake pads earlier.

As soon as the brake pads have reached the wear limit, it is necessary to replace them. This is the only way to ensure sufficient brake power for your vehicle. If warning contacts are installed in the vehicle, they should also be replaced directly as they wear out over time, too. Wear warning contacts serve to warn the driver in good time when the wear limit is reached and thus guarantee a technically flawless brake system. The brake fluid should also be changed on a regular basis. The prescribed replacement interval can be found in the service booklet of your vehicle.

To distribute the brake force evenly between the left and right sides of the vehicle, it is important to always replace the brake discs and brake pads pairwise, i. e. per axle. For this reason, we have compiled individual brake sets exclusively from the vehicle manufacturers' original brake discs and brake pads. With these brake sets, you can always be calm and safe on the road.

What has to be considered when buying and installing the brakes?

To avoid unnecessary and time-consuming complaints, professional installation of the brake system and compliance with the running-in instructions should be ensured at any rate. It is particularly important to choose the correct size of brake discs and pads. The best way to find the right spare parts is to use the vehicle identification number in the vehicle registration document. With VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda, the PR number is even more precise. You can find the PR number (3 digits) in your vehicle service booklet or on a sticker in the boot of the vehicle.

We will be happy to advise you and help you to find the exactly fitting brake set for your car.

With the vehicle manufacturers' original brakes, you are playing it safe when it comes to quality and accuracy of fit. Especially with regard to the sensitive brake system of many BMW models, it is recommended to use original BMW components. BMW produces most of its brake discs itself. Some well-known manufacturers in the aftermarket have difficulties meeting the specific requirements of a BMW brake system one hundred percent. Therefore, for BMW drivers as well as for all other vehicle types, we recommend: When it comes to brakes, it is better to use the original! Under no circumstances should you save on the most important component of your car! At Myparto, you will also find the original parts at lower prices than in the contract workshops!
