Window cleaning - original spare parts at a reasonable price

The windscreen cleaning on the vehicle is an elementary component of the car and improves vehicle safety. Clean windows thus reduce the risk of accidents. It therefore makes sense to always ensure that that all spare parts for the windscreen washer system function perfectly. In addition, great importance should also be attached to quality here. You receive the highest quality with the original spare parts of the vehicle manufacturers. You will find them at much lower prices than at your authorised repair shop.

In addition, in the lower section we go into more detail about which spare parts belong to the windscreen washer system and how they can best be maintained. Furthermore, we present possible causes in case the windshield cleaning does not work as expected. Last but not least, we clarify a few myths about the windscreen washer system.

Which spare parts belong to the windscreen washer system?

The function of the windscreen washer system is to keep the windscreen and, depending on the vehicle, also the rear window clean and free of visual impairments. Impairments are rain, snow, dust or dirt.

In order to clean the car windows effectively, a perfect interaction of different car parts is necessary. The windscreen washer system on a car therefore consists of the following components:

Most of the spare parts listed above are movable elements which are subject to wear and tear. The more thoroughly and regularly the parts are maintained and cleaned, the longer they last. Nevertheless, all vehicle owners have to deal with the replacement of spare parts at regular intervals. Of course, the parts of a windscreen washer system wear to varying degrees. This also depends on their quality. High-quality spare parts have a longer durability than cheap goods. If something should break down, it is not immediately obvious to everyone which part is defective.

What faults can occur in the windshield washer system?

We have listed the most important malfunctions of the windscreen washer system below and always state the main causes and possible solutions.

Frequently asked questions about windshield cleaning

There are always various questions and theories circulating on the net around the topic of windscreen cleaning. We get to the bottom of the most important of them here.

  1. What should I fill the windscreen washer in summer?
The main component is water. However, it is worth adding a summer cleaner in summer. This makes it possible to remove insects etc. from the windscreen faster and more effectively.
  2. Antifreeze for windscreen washer dilute or undiluted and can also be diluted with normal tap water?
In winter it is important to use high-quality antifreeze. There are ready-mixed solutions and the concentrate can be mixed by yourself. Finished solutions can simply be used directly and should not be further diluted with water. On the concentrate, however, the freezing points are indicated. Concentrates down to -20 degrees Celsius can also be used undiluted if the corresponding temperatures prevail. The others should be mixed with water (preferably tap water). The recommended mixing ratio is generally indicated on the concentrate containers.
  3. coolant filled into the windscreen washer system. What now?
Coolant is based on polyvalent alcohols, but also has other components that serve, for example, as rust protection. If radiator antifreeze gets into the wiping water, this can lead to increased streaking. The radiator antifreeze should therefore be removed immediately and the windscreen washer system flushed thoroughly. Please collect the antifreeze and dispose of it properly as it is harmful to the environment.
  4. Oil comes out of the windscreen washer system in the car. What to do?
Here, too, the wrong liquid was mistakenly added to the fountain solution. The same applies as for radiator antifreeze. The oil must be removed from the circuit. A workshop is the best place to get the whole system oil-free. Water alone is not sufficient.
  5. The spray nozzles of the windscreen washer system on the car are frozen, what can I do?
There are several variants. First try carefully with a needle to prick the nozzles freely. If this does not help, pour some warm water (not hot) over it. If this is not enough, the pipe is probably also frozen. Then it is best to pour in undiluted antifreeze. If this does not work either, then it can also be a frozen wash water pump. The solution here is to push the car into the garage and let a fan heater run in front of the hood for about 2 hours. This should defrost everything again.
  6. Can I use alcohol as frost protection for the windscreen washer?
Methylated spirits are not an adequate substitute for windscreen antifreeze. It attacks the plastic parts of the windscreen washer system and thus small deposits get into the windscreen cleaning system. This can clog nozzles or damage other parts.
  7. Is vinegar an alternative to antifreeze in the windshield washer in the car or freezes it?
Just like spirit, vinegar is no alternative to antifreeze. On the one hand it also freezes at too cold temperatures, since its main component is water. On the other hand, vinegar is acid and attacks seals and other rubber parts. Then not only the spare parts of the window cleaning are concerned, but also the door and window seals and everything else which comes with the antifreeze into contact.

How do I best maintain my windshield washer system on my car?

The windscreen washer system on the car should be completely checked at least once a year. For this purpose, it is best to visually inspect the following components:

  • Washing water tank
  • Hoses
  • Washing nozzles
  • Liquid level in the wash water tank

The wash water pump, on the other hand, is best viewed by a specialist.

In addition to the annual check, it is advisable to pay more attention to the wiper blades. So it's worth wiping the windscreen wipers with a damp cloth every few weeks and treating them with a special rubber care product. In addition, heavy soiling on the windscreen should be cleaned during a car wash instead of trying it over the wiper blades. Do not remove ice with the windscreen wipers, but use an ice scraper. This will prolong the life of the wiper blades and ensure a good view at all times.

The cleaning of windows should not be underestimated. It is worth paying attention to it regularly so that you are always safe on the road. You can also rely on the quality of the original products. Should you have any further questions about the spare parts for a windscreen washer system or the care products, please feel free to contact our customer service.
