What are the advantages of Original BMW Oil?

Original BMW engine oil is one of the best oils on the market and offers unique advantages for BMW drivers. It is made from the best raw materials and is very pure. In addition, it has a special composition that makes it particularly effective. BMW oil protects the engine from corrosion and wear, ensures long engine life and improves engine performance. Below we will go over the advantages of a BMW oil and what to consider when buying a BMW engine oil.

BMW engine oil is made from high-quality synthetic base oils and contains a number of additives that make the oil even better. Additives such as molybdenum disulfide prevent abrasion, sludge and corrosion. Other additives, such as calcium, provide smooth performance and a protective film over the engine to reduce friction and increase engine durability.

Another reason why BMW oil is so popular is the fact that it lubricates very well. It makes the engine run smoothly and reduces friction between the moving parts of the engine. This means that the engine uses less energy and is therefore more economical to run, but can still deliver the highest performance. With a BMW engine oil all the required demands on an engine oil are met, which are necessary for a smooth interaction with a BMW engine and get the maximum performance out of the vehicle.

The advantages of Original BMW engine oils at a glance:

  • Improved cold start behavior and more constant engine performance due to optimum viscosity and low temperature properties
  • Integrierter Schutz vor Korrosion und Verschleiß
  • Reduced oil consumption, as BMW oils do not evaporate as much
  • Extend the life of an engine, as it can be kept almost factory clean by the BMW engine oil

To keep the engine almost factory clean, the BMW engine oil binds more dirt particles, so that they can be deposited less inside the engine. Thus, the BMW oil also protects against sludge formation, which also has a positive effect on the life of the engine.

Why are Longlife engine oils the best for BMW motors?

Most BMW engine oils are longlife engine oils. A Longlife engine oil differs from other engine oils primarily by its flow properties. It is thin and usually contains special additives, which gives it a higher lubricity and can bring the engine to performance faster even at cold temperatures. This is why these oils are also called low-viscosity oils. Due to the better flow properties, fewer deposits are formed, which means that the longlife engine oil does not have to be changed as quickly and the engine is protected from damage. The high flow properties are also reflected in the SAE viscosity grades. Longlife engine oils generally have an SAE of 0W or 5W and are thus flowable from -35 or -30 degrees Celsius. This is made possible because Longlife engine oils are synthesized engine oils.

The designation Longlife on the engine oil bottles is a BMW specification. The BMW Longlife classes are thus a quality feature for high-quality engine oil. This classification is determined by BMW on the basis of various criteria. Primarily, the Longlife class depends on the engine type and the model year. This results in differences in, for example, viscosity, lubricant composition and additive ingredients.

The most important classifications are:

  • BMW Longlife 01: for approved diesel engines from model year 2003 without diesel particulate filter and for approved gasoline engines from model year 2002 onwards
  • BMW Longlife 01 FE: for approved gasoline engines
  • BMW Longlife 04: for all BMW diesel engines with and without particulate filter as well as for all BMW gasoline engines approved in the EU with and without particulate filter
  • BMW Longlife 12 FE: for certain BMW diesel engines from model year 2014 and for all BMW gasoline engines released in the EU with and without particulate filter from model year 2002 onwards.
  • BMW Longlife 14 FE+: for approved gasoline engines without particulate filter
  • BMW Longlife 17 FE+: for approved BMW gasoline engines with and without particulate filter from model year 2014 onwards

The abbreviation FE stands for Fuel Economy, which means lower fuel consumption.

In addition to the Longlife specifications, there is also the BMW M engine oil, which was developed for special BMW gasoline vehicles with and without gasoline particulate filter of the M model series. It is a high-performance engine oil, which is also often used in motor sports. The M engine oil is available both as Longlife and without this additive, it depends on the primary use of the vehicle.
In addition, BMW also offers Advantec Ultimate engine oil, which is suitable exclusively for BMW motorcycles.

Buying original BMW engine oil: What should I bear in mind?

Anyone who buys a BMW is enthusiastic about the performance of the engine. However, it is also important to care for the engine so that the performance is maintained. This makes engine oil one of the most important automotive components of all. It provides lubrication and cooling for the engine, helping to extend its life. To be able to buy the right BMW engine oil, it is necessary to pay attention to the following specifications:

  • What viscosity (SAE) is required?
  • For which Longlife class is the vehicle approved?
  • What are the ACEA and API specifications?

All these points can be found in the operating instructions of your vehicle. There you will also see the indication of how much BMW oil is needed. With this information it is easy to buy the right BMW engine oil. In our store, you can simply select your vehicle and then choose from the offers that suit you. Alternatively, you can filter by viscosity and manufacturer release.

As a special feature, we have put together ready-made product packages individually for each BMW vehicle, as an oil change involves more than just replacing the engine oil. These sets therefore contain not only the required amount of BMW engine oil, but also the corresponding oil filter and, if necessary, other products such as oil drain plugs, etc. One click and you have everything you need in your shopping cart. If you are unsure which BMW engine oil to buy, please contact our customer service team.
